Attitudes Toward Different Groups #76

Title: Attitudes Toward Different Groups

Description: In this study, we are examining attitudes toward two groups: 1) individuals who are sexually attracted to minors (i.e. under the age of 18) and 2) individuals who drink large amounts of alcohol almost daily.

All participants will complete a demographics questionnaire, a questionnaire about attitudes toward individuals who are attracted to minors but have never committed a sexual offence, and a questionnaire about attitudes toward individuals with alcohol use problems. Mental healthcare providers will complete a questionnaire about their clinical experiences, a questionnaire about willingness to treat individuals who are attracted to minors and have never offended and a questionnaire about willingness to receive training to provide treatment to these individuals. Furthermore, open response questions will be asked to inquire about the reasons for mental healthcare providers’ motivation, or lack thereof, to work with individuals who are attracted to minors.

Specifics: Study Population:
Participants will include 225 registered mental healthcare providers or students on track to become registered mental healthcare providers and 75 members of the general public from Canada or the United States, N = 300.

Participant Obligation:
Participants will complete online questionnaires consisting of closed and open response questions which are anticipated to take 15 minutes.
