As many CPA members know, Quebec internship programs, other than those sponsored by a university, do not remunerate their interns\/residents.  CPA has written a letter of support for FIDEP in its pursuit of this funding; this letter was written to Quebec\u2019s Ministers of Health and Education.  FIDEP also has a petition which it will present to the Quebec National Assembly on September 17, 2016. The petition is only available in French but an English translation of it can be found by clicking here (insert url)<\/p>\n\n--><\/p>\n<p>Psychology internship remuneration in Qu&eacute;bec &ndash; English Translation of FIDEP petition at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/\/goo.gl\/wk2Xgc\" rel=\"noopener\">goo.gl\/wk2Xgc<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To sign this petition, please complete the 3 following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Step 1: Fill out the form under the text of the petition and submit it (you must accept the conditions to be able to sign the petition before sending the form).<\/li>\n<li>Step 2: Check your email inbox and open the message sent by the Qu&eacute;bec National Assembly<\/li>\n<li>Step 3: Open this message and click the link allowing you to save your signature.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please note that you can sign the same petition only once.<\/p>\n<p>Text of the petition<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSIDERING that,<\/strong> since 2006 a third cycle doctoral degree is required to obtain the title of psychologist in Quebec;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSIDERING that,<\/strong> as part of this doctoral degree, students must complete a mandatory internship of 1600 hours that is currently unpaid in Qu&eacute;bec;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSIDERING that,<\/strong> this internship corresponds to one year of full-time work which is usually completed within Qu&eacute;bec public networks of health and social services and education, and that the interns in psychology offer professional services to Qu&eacute;bec residents;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSIDERING that,<\/strong> in addition to working one full year without receiving any pay, interns in psychology must pay between $ 1,300 and $ 6,000 of tuition fees during this internship year;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSIDERING that,<\/strong> in North America, Quebec is the only province that does not offer any remuneration to interns in psychology, the Canadian average being over $ 31,000;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSIDERING that,<\/strong> Quebec interns in psychology perform about 80% of a psychologist&rsquo;s tasks during the internship;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSIDERING that,<\/strong> interns offer their services under minimal supervision, which represents 12.5% of their working hours;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSIDERING that,<\/strong> residents in medicine in Quebec, with a comparable number of years of education and a similar degree of autonomy than psychology interns, are paid up to $ 45,000 in their first year of residence;<\/p>\n<p>We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Qu&eacute;bec to mandate a fair remuneration internships in psychology in Quebec and to pay all psychology interns working in the public sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>CPA Letter to Employers<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>CPA CEO, Dr. Karen Cohen, has written a letter to major employers in Canada requesting a meeting with their leadership to discuss ways in which they can address the mental health needs of their employees to improve workplace morale and productivity. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cpa.ca\/docs\/File\/Practice\/cpa_letter_to_employers.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to read the letter <\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>New CPA Section<\/h4>\n<p>The CPA would like to announce the formation of a new Section &#8211; Psychologists in Hospitals and Health Centers. This Section will provide a forum for psychologists who are employed, practice, teach, or conduct research in hospitals and health care settings.&nbsp; Convention delegates are invited to attend the Town Hall and organizational meeting that will be held during the CPA&#8217;s 73rd Annual Convention in Halifax.<\/p>\n<h4>Proposition de financement&nbsp;: SCP, HEAL et D<sup>r<\/sup>&nbsp;P.&nbsp;Hausdorf (SCPIO)<o:p><\/o:p><\/h4>\n<p>La SCP, au nom d&rsquo;un sous-ensemble d&rsquo;organisations et d&rsquo;associations membres du Groupe d&rsquo;intervention Action Sant&eacute; (HEAL) et D<sup>r<\/sup>&nbsp;Peter&nbsp;Hausdorf, pr&eacute;sident, de la Soci&eacute;t&eacute; canadienne de psychologie industrielle-organisationnelle (SCPIO), ont pr&eacute;sent&eacute; une proposition de financement &agrave; Sant&eacute; Canada. L&rsquo;objectif de cette proposition est d&rsquo;&eacute;laborer une enqu&ecirc;te sur le Web qui permettra d&rsquo;&eacute;valuer la sant&eacute; au travail et le bien\u2011&ecirc;tre des professionnels de la sant&eacute; du Canada. Nous attendons la d&eacute;cision relative au financement.<\/p>\n<h4>Sant&eacute; mentale des fonctionnaires f&eacute;d&eacute;raux<o:p><\/o:p><\/h4>\n<p>La SCP a entam&eacute; une s&eacute;rie de r&eacute;unions avec des repr&eacute;sentants de la fonction publique f&eacute;d&eacute;rale au sujet de la sant&eacute; mentale de ses ressources humaines. Des articles qui ont paru r&eacute;cemment dans le journal Ottawa Citizen indiquent qu&rsquo;environ 40&nbsp;% des r&eacute;clamations d&rsquo;invalidit&eacute; chez les fonctionnaires f&eacute;d&eacute;raux sont li&eacute;es &agrave; la sant&eacute; mentale. La SCP esp&egrave;re travailler avec les communaut&eacute;s d&rsquo;int&eacute;r&ecirc;t dans le but de satisfaire les besoins de sant&eacute; mentale primaires, secondaires et tertiaires de la main-d&rsquo;&oelig;uvre au pays. La SCP esp&egrave;re engager ses communaut&eacute;s d&rsquo;experts et &ecirc;tre en mesure de pr&ecirc;ter main forte dans la satisfaction de ces besoins et dans la promotion des changements n&eacute;cessaires &agrave; apporter au syst&egrave;me en vue d&rsquo;am&eacute;liorer l&rsquo;acc&egrave;s aux services de psychologie lorsqu&rsquo;ils sont n&eacute;cessaires. Une grande proportion de l&rsquo;effectif en psychologie approche de la retraite. Qui prendra la place des retrait&eacute;s? Combien de personnes faut-il former? Comment faut-il faire la planification dans le but d&rsquo;assurer qu&rsquo;il y a suffisamment de psychologues dans les domaines comme la pr&eacute;vention, la promotion de la sant&eacute; et la r&eacute;adaptation? Aurons\u2011nous un nombre ad&eacute;quat de psychologues pour mener de la recherche, former les &eacute;tudiants futurs et &eacute;laborer des programmes? Nous avons des donn&eacute;es au sujet du nombre d&rsquo;&eacute;tudiants qui entrent et qui obtiennent un dipl&ocirc;me des programmes de psychologie, mais tr&egrave;s peu quant &agrave; la nature de leur formation et encore moins au sujet de leurs cheminements de carri&egrave;re apr&egrave;s qu&rsquo;ils ont obtenu leur dipl&ocirc;me. Nous manquons d&rsquo;information sur le nombre de psychologues qui pratiquent de fa&ccedil;on active dans l&rsquo;administration o&ugrave; ils sont autoris&eacute;s, le nombre qui &oelig;uvrent dans le secteur public et le secteur priv&eacute;, le nombre qui travaillent dans le domaine de la sant&eacute;, du service correctionnel, dans le secteur scolaire, le nombre de psychologues employ&eacute;s &agrave; temps plein et &agrave; temps partiel, etc.<\/p>\n<p>En 2008, la SCP a constitu&eacute; un groupe de travail qui devait se pencher sur les probl&egrave;mes li&eacute;s &agrave; l&rsquo;offre et &agrave; la demande de psychologues au pays.<\/p>\n<p>Regardez l&#8217;issue de <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cpa.ca\/cpasite\/UserFiles\/Documents\/Psynopsis%208_Spring%202009.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">2009 Printemps, Psynopsis<\/a>,&nbsp;pour un article sur les questions de l&#8217;offre et la demande et le groupe de travail.<\/p>\n<h4>G7<\/h4>\n<p>La SCP est un membre de ce groupe d&rsquo;associations de soins de sant&eacute; nationales &agrave; l&rsquo;ext&eacute;rieur de la m&eacute;decine et des sciences infirmi&egrave;res organis&eacute; pour faire des repr&eacute;sentations pour les besoins de ses ressources humaines en sant&eacute; importantes qui fonctionnent tant &agrave; l&rsquo;int&eacute;rieur qu&rsquo;&agrave; l&rsquo;ext&eacute;rieur du secteur de la sant&eacute; publique.
