The CPA\u2019s Social and Personality Section was pleased to host a pre-conference event as part of the CPA\u2019s 2022 Annual Convention in Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, June 16th, 2022<\/strong>, from 9:00 am-4:00 pm MDT, at the Hyatt Regency Calgary Hotel (i.e., in-person event). This exciting event was open to CPA students and members, as well as non-CPA members and students for a very low price.<\/p>\n

The pre-conference (in-person) featured an exciting line up of speakers covering a wide array of social and personality topics. Our four speakers were:<\/p>\n

CPA 2021 Social and Personality Invited Speaker Session (Virtual Convention)

Organizer and Moderator: Dr. Cheryl Harasymchuk<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The session showcased ongoing Canadian research in the area of Social and Personality psychology. Invited speakers with diverse research backgrounds including, self and other perceptions, attitudes, personality, applied interventions, and intimate relationships discussed their current research. More specifically, Dr. Anne Wilson (Wilfrid\u00a0Laurier University) reviewed a program of research considering how people make sense of past wrongdoings of self and others and their subjective implications for the present. Dr. Jordan Axt (McGill University) described his research on implicit transgender attitudes and associated outcomes. Dr. Marc Fournier (University of Toronto) discussed his research on personality coherence (i.e., the extent to which a person\u2019s psychological characteristics are coordinated, unified, and integrated) in samples of emerging and midlife adults. Finally, research in the context of the pandemic was described as it relates to community interventions to improve well-being in adolescents and young adults (Dr. Roxane de la Sablonni\u00e8re, Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al) and relationship processes that help buffer the effects of COVID-19 on intimate relationships (Dr. Amy Muise, York University).<\/p>\n
