Psych -&nbsp; Past Chair<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n<p><u>Dr. Wagdy Loza<\/u> is a licensed psychologist (Ontario) and a Member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA).&nbsp; He has recently retired from his career as the Chief Psychologist with the Correctional Service of Canada with almost 30 years of experience in the Correctional\/Forensic field.&nbsp; Also he is an Adjunct Assistant Professor (Psychiatry, Queen&rsquo;s University) and ex. Adjunct Professor (Psychology, Carleton University).&nbsp; He acted as a clinical supervisor to university and college students and supervised honors and graduate theses and served as a member of examining committees for MA and PhD candidates in Canada and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Loza&rsquo;s research interests are in the areas of predicting violence and recidivism with Correctional and Forensic populations, and understanding extremism and terrorism, primarily emanating from the Middle-East.&nbsp; He has 40 publications in these areas and offered workshops and presentations in several countries around the world such as Australia, Canada, Egypt, Kuwait, Amsterdam, Portugal, South Africa, and the USA. Dr. Loza has developed two measures.&nbsp; The first is the Self Appraisal Questionnaire (the SAQ) for predicting violent and non-violent recidivism among correctional\/forensic populations.&nbsp; The SAQ has been published with Multi-Health System (MHS).&nbsp; The second measure is the Belief Diversity Scale (BDS) designed to measure religiously-based Middle-Eastern extremism and terrorism.&nbsp; In 2006, he was awarded with the Significant Contribution Award for the Criminal Justice Section of the (CPA).&nbsp; He has served as the President of the Board of Directors, St. Lawrence Youth Association for Young Offenders, Kingston, Ontario.<br \/>\n<strong>Tel:<\/strong> &nbsp;613-634-0227&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>E-mail:<\/strong> <a href=\"mailto:wml1@sympatico.ca\">wml1@sympatico.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4>Anna Gray, PhD - Director at Large<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n<p><u>Dr. Anna Gray-Henschel<\/u> is the Director General, Strategic Integration &amp; Program Support, National Security Criminal Investigations, Royal Canadian Mounted Police.&nbsp; Dr. Gray-Henschel joined the RCMP in 1992 as a Senior Researcher in the Human Resources Directorate at RCMP Headquarters, Ottawa, where she was responsible for implementing effective HR management systems of recruitment, promotion, performance management, and national and international training to meet the RCMP's strategic priorities. She was also involved in developing a broad range of tests and examinations to aid in the selection and promotion of RCMP employees for various positions and assignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>In 2002, she was appointed Officer-in-Charge of Integrated Operational Support to the Deputy Commissioner, Operations and Integration where she was responsible for providing integrated support and advice to three operational Deputies. This included coordinating and managing processes related to briefings, correspondence and file management, as well as the sharing of information across RCMP policy centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>In 2005, Dr. Gray-Henschel was appointed Director General, Intelligence Requirements and Strategic Integration in Criminal Intelligence and then to Director General, Strategic Integration and Program Support in National Security Criminal Investigations. In her current position she provides strategic direction to the National Security Program through functions that include policy and program development, program planning and evaluation, national security awareness services, and the coordination and production of briefings for RCMP senior management. Other areas of responsibility include overseeing the alternative analysis of issues affecting the larger strategic environment (such as radicalization) and updating and modifying criminal intelligence tools and processes. She also oversees RCMP secondees in National Security-related positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Just prior to joining the RCMP she was a Test Development Officer in the Occupational Test Development Unit, Personnel Psychology Centre of Public Service Commission of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Gray-Henschel holds a Ph. D (1990) and M.A. (1986) in Psychology, from the University of Western Ontario, specializing in test development, psychological measurement and statistics. She also holds a Double Major Honours B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from York University. In 2002, Dr. Gray received the Queen*s Golden Jubilee Medal for her HR work with the RCMP and internationally.<br \/>\n<strong>E-mail:<\/strong> <a href=\"mailto:Anna.Gray@rcmp-grc.gc.ca\">Anna.Gray@rcmp-grc.gc.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4>David Nussbaum, PhD -&nbsp; Secretary<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n<p><u>Dr.&nbsp; David Nussbaum<\/u> graduated with a Ph. D. in Biological Psychology from the University of Waterloo in 1983.&nbsp; He completed a Post-Doctoral Internship in Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry in 1985 and became a Registered Psychologist in the Province of Ontario in 1986.&nbsp; He worked for 17 years at the Metropolitan Toronto Forensic Service (later known as the Assessment and Treatment Unit) serving as Senior Psychologist between 1994 and 2004 when he went to the Forensic Program at the Whitby Mental Health Centre (now called the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences.)&nbsp;As an Adjunct Professor,&nbsp;Dr. Nussbaum taught 28 different undergraduate course titles at York University between 1985 and 2005, including Psychopharmacology\/Drugs and Behaviour.&nbsp; He has been with the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough since 2005, retaining a Research Psychologist position at Ontario Shores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>His research attempts to bridge the gap between basic neuroscience and clinical\/applied psychology.&nbsp; Specific research areas include human aggression, decision-making, cognitive, motivational and emotional processes in executive function, personality (e.g., psychopathy) and psycholegal issues (e.g., Fitness to Stand Trial, Criminal Responsibility, Risk Assessment &amp; Management).&nbsp; His research interest in RxP and psychopharmacology seeks to have a non-dichotomous method for prescribing medication based on basic neuroscience and information processing networks rather than empirically derived &ldquo;disease states&rdquo; that have no neuroscientific bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Nussbaum has published over 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals, most while employed in a clinical capacity.&nbsp; A CPA Fellow, Dr. Nussbaum served as head of the CPA Section on Criminal Justice Systems between 1993 and 2000 and as chair of the CPA Section on Psychopharmacology between 1994 and the present.&nbsp; He also served as the inaugural CPA &quot;Chair of Chairs&quot; between 2005 and the present.&nbsp; He has supervised Ph. D. dissertations at the University of Toronto (2) and York University (3) and three&nbsp;Psy. D. dissertations at the Adler School of Professional Psychology, in Chicago. &nbsp;He has also provided clinical supervision for over a dozen post-docs for registration as psychologists in the Province of Ontario.<br \/>\n<strong>E-mail:<\/strong> <a href=\"mailto:dnussbaum@utsc.utoronto.ca\">dnussbaum@utsc.utoronto.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4>David Fischman, PhD, C.Psych. - Treasurer<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n<p><u>Dr. David Fischman<\/u> is a clinical psychologist who has worked in a variety of concentrations; the CSC High Intensity Sex Offender Treatment Program, Canadian Forces Health Services and the monitoring team of the Canadian Forces Conduct After Capture training.&nbsp; His interest in extremism stems initially from his experience as a student at a college in an Israeli West Bank settlement during the First Lebanese War and later after his mother, who had worked in lower Manhattan during 9\/11, recounted having witnessed the collapse of the twin towers and fleeing the area on foot.&nbsp; Both of these events sparked a rapidly rising acceptance of hatred and violence as inevitable.&nbsp; He feels that in some way, understanding terrorism can turn this tide of pessimism by &quot;de-normalizing&quot; violence.&nbsp; <strong>Email:<\/strong> <a href=\"mailto:fischmand@yahoo.ca?subject=Message%20from%20CPA%20Web%20Page\">fischmand@yahoo.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4>Chelsea Ferriday - Student Representative<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n<p><u>Chelsea Ferriday<\/u> is a graduate student in social and personality psychology at York University in Toronto.&nbsp; Under the supervision of Dr. Ian McGregor, Chelsea has been studying how personality dispositions and threats to external systems interact to affect extreme religious beliefs and proclivity to gangs.&nbsp; She is also interested in extrinsic and intrinsic religiousity, collective self-estem, and the effect of group obedience on religious extremism.&nbsp; <strong>Email:<\/strong>&nbsp; <a href=\"mailto:ferriday@yorku.ca?subject=Message%20from%20CPA%20Website\">ferriday@yorku.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4>Steven Stein, PhD, C.Psych:&nbsp; Newsletter Editor<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n<p><u>Dr. Steven Stein<\/u> is a licensed psychologist (Ontario) and member of the Canadian Psychological Association, Ontario Psychological Association and American Psychological Association. He is the CEO of Multi-Health Systems (MHS) the largest Canadian test publishing company.&nbsp;He previously held the positions of Director of Research and Evaluation, Thistletown Regional Centre, Toronto; Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto; Adjunct Professor, Department of Psychology, York University, Toronto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Stein is a Past President of the Ontario Psychological Association and Past Chair of the Psychology Foundation of Canada. &nbsp;His research interests included emotional intelligence, terrorism and risk assessment.
