As part of its mission statement, the CPA is committed to promoting excellence and innovation in psychological research; to promoting the advancement, development, dissemination, and application of psychological knowledge; and to providing high-quality services to members.
To help meet these objectives, in 2009, the CPA Board voted to approve the formation of the Science Directorate. CPA hired an Associate Executive Director (renamed Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Director, Science Directorate in 2011) at 1.0 FTE (instead of the .8 FTE held by the previous AED) in order to increase senior staffing devoted to science and advocacy. CPA’s Scientific Affairs Committee (SAC) will act as Council for the Science Directorate.
Among its various activities, the Science Directorate will lobby government for increased funding for psychological research, promote and support the work of Canadian researchers in Psychology, and educate the public about important findings from psychological science.
