Needs and Preferences for a Peer-Delivered Intervention to Treat Insomnia Among Adult Cancer Survivors

Title: Needs and Preferences for a Peer-Delivered Intervention to Treat Insomnia Among Adult Cancer Survivors

Description: Have you been diagnosed with cancer? Do you also have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Or are you a healthcare provider who works with cancer survivors? We want to hear about your experiences with treatment for cancer-related sleep difficulties.

Many cancer survivors will have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep after their cancer diagnosis. However, it can be hard for people with cancer to find non-medicine options to help them sleep better because there are not enough trained healthcare providers available. Peer support is widely available across Canada, and we believe that lay peers can be trained to treat sleep problems. With this study, we will ask cancer survivors, peer supporters, and healthcare providers about the treatments currently offered to cancer survivors for sleep problems and their opinions on a new treatment delivered by peers using online surveys and interviews. The information we collect will help us develop a new peer support program to help treat sleep problems among cancer survivors.

Specifics: Study Population:
1. Canadians 18 or older diagnosed with any type or stage of cancer who have insomnia
2. Canadians diagnosed with any type or stage of cancer who facilitate a peer support group
3. Licensed healthcare provider who works with individuals with cancer

Participant Obligation:
Cancer survivors with insomnia will be asked to complete a 10-minute online survey and/or a qualitative interview (approx 30-60 minutes).
Peer supporters and healthcare providers will be asked to complete a short qualitative interview.
