In consultation with the Scientific Affairs Committee, CPA has developed a number of priorities to guide the Science Directorate.
- Advocacy papers on the role of psychologists in research and psychologists as scientists/researchers
- Partnerships with research-oriented associations such as the Canadian Consortium for Research
- Participate in advocacy activities; provide advocacy training to membership
- Offer sessions on navigating the grant submission process at CPA’s annual convention
- Liaisons with granting councils regarding funding for psychological research
- Develop and update printed materials on relevance and relatedness of psychological research to CIHR institutes
- Representation of psychological science at CPA Convention
- Survey of membership regarding CPA’s science-related activities
- Participation in Consultations and Experts Tables on research-related matters
- Consultation with Scientific Affairs Committee
- Review coverage of psychological science in CPA journals and publications
- Serve as resource regarding legislation and regulation of research practices
- Provide updates on science activities to membership via CPA Newsletter, Psynopsis, etc.
- Organize/respond to federal budget announcements
- Explore potential links between the Scientific Affairs Committee and Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT)
- Liaisons with University Deans regarding issues related to psychological research
- Connect with University Tri-Council representatives
- Resource for students regarding CPA science activities
- Explore opportunities to contribute to policy development in psychology
- Liaise with Psychology Departments with experimental psychology programs
