Biography
As a former criminology student aspiring to become a defence attorney with a mission to rectify injustices within the criminal justice system, my academic journey led me through a transformative path toward a deeper understanding of societal issues. While initially drawn to the legal realm, I soon realized the limitations of effecting substantial change solely through legal practice. Upon delving into sociology courses, I gained invaluable insights into the intricate fabric of societal dynamics. I found my true calling in the field of psychology.
I am the campus representative for CPA at Adler University, where I am pursuing a Master of Arts in counselling psychology. I am constantly brainstorming innovative ideas that blend psychological principles with content discussed in CPA podcasts, literature, and other scholarly materials. These events serve as platforms for fostering connections and sparking meaningful conversations.
I plan to acquire a Ph.D then pursue a multifaceted career as a psychologist, researcher, and professor. Through therapeutic interventions, both individual and group based, I aim to provide support to those navigating mental health challenges. Simultaneously, my research endeavours are geared towards addressing societal issues, exemplified by my current focus on the mental health ramifications of family rejection among Canadian Pakistanis. I aspire to advocate for marginalized communities and foster greater societal awareness by curating and conducting applicable research.
Central to my aspirations is a profound appreciation for the mentorship and guidance provided by my instructors. Their mentorship has been instrumental in shaping my academic journey, instilling in me a desire to pay it forward by motivating and supporting the next generation of students. Ultimately, I aspire to become a professor and inspire and guide students to harness their potential for the betterment of society and the advancement of psychology as a discipline.
