Statement of Intent
As a prospective candidate for the Graduate Student Affairs Executive position, I am committed to fulfilling the role's responsibilities with diligence and enthusiasm.
I recognize the crucial role that Representatives play in increasing exposure of the CPA within their institutions. I am therefore committed to recruiting new representatives, facilitating networking opportunities, and providing resources to assist the Representatives in their role. To effectively recruit new representatives, I will actively seek out and recruit qualified individuals to serve as Representatives by promoting the benefits and responsibilities of being a Representative while ensuring diversity and representation across various demographics in the selection process wherever possible. I will also ensure that current representatives remain active by implementing strategies to encourage and motivate representatives and encouraging regular and open lines of communication to provide support, guidance, and resources to representatives.
I also understand the importance of responding promptly to questions and inquiries. I am committed to providing detailed and timely replies to all inquiries and maintaining regular contact with Representatives and executives. I am skilled in working closely and proficiently with diverse teams, and I have developed practical organizational skills that will enable me to be effective in this role.
In undertaking these responsibilities, I am dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment within the CPA community and ensuring adequate representation of its members. I am committed to upholding the various values and objectives of the CPA and contributing positively to its continued growth and success. Should the Graduate Student Affairs Executive role be filled by another candidate, I am also interested in the Communications Executive role and feel my skills will effectively transfer to this role.
Biography
My name is Luisa Depta, and I recently completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, minoring in Anthropology. I was also recently accepted into City University of Seattle's Master of Counseling program and look forward to starting in Fall 2024. My goal is to become a Registered Psychologist in Alberta and to specialize in working with those who have experienced religious trauma, as well as working with couples and families. I agree with the decades of research that have demonstrated how one's beliefs and values, whether tied to an explicit religious system or not, guide us through life and affect us as individuals and as family units. Therefore, there is great value in discovering and sometimes modifying implicit beliefs and values to allow individuals to operate within a new frame of reference.
Sharing information through writing is another passion of mine, and I am excited for the opportunity to integrate this into my role as a psychologist and Graduate Student Affairs Executive with the CPA. I have had several articles published, and I enjoy all aspects of the writing process, especially experiencing how the topic evolves throughout the research process.
I am currently employed as an Emergency Communications Officer/Dispatcher with Calgary 911. This role has allowed me to communicate efficiently, prioritize effectively, and effectively communicate with and assist individuals experiencing various stressful situations.
My interests include caring for and interacting with our 23 pets, including our two dogs, a chameleon, a blue tongue skink, and hedgehogs, expanding my plant collection, reading as much as possible, and trying various crafts.
