Nominee Statement for Monnica T. Williams seeking the Director Representing Practice
I am a registered clinical psychologist in Ontario and Canada Research Chair in Mental Health Disparities at the University of Ottawa. I received my PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia and have practiced for over 20 years, specializing in evidence-based therapies, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD and Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD. I am Board Certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology (ABPP) and a certified trainer in Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), a behavioral relational approach.
In addition to my academic role, I am the Clinical and Training Director of the Behavioral Wellness Clinics in Ottawa and Connecticut, which I founded to provide evidenced-based, culturally-informed client care. My clinical practice includes assessments for legal cases involving discriminatory trauma, and I provide ongoing training for clinicians across North America. I have authored three treatment manuals, which includes a co-authored APA textbook on psychedelic-assisted therapy.
I have served for several years on the CPA Accreditation Panel and have dedicated much of my career to advancing equity in clinical practice and training. I believe strongly in the importance of advocacy for our profession from within the practitioner community. As someone actively engaged in direct care, supervision, and clinic leadership, I understand the challenges facing clinicians today—from regulatory demands to gaps in culturally-responsive care.
I bring a collaborative mindset, a passion for mentorship, and a deep commitment to excellence in practice. It would be an honour to represent practitioners on the CPA Board of Directors.
