Statement of Intent
My name is Marie-Pier Mazerolle (she/her), and I am applying for the Administration and Finance Executive position amongst CPA’s Student Section. Coming from a background of both student and national advocacy and a strong passion for both clinical and research in psychology, I am confident that I am qualified for this role at the CPA Student Section team. I was inspired by the idea of serving my fellow psychology students at a national level, contributing to the advancement of our field and the well-being of our community. As a member of the Executive team, I see an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by leveraging my skills and experiences in administration and student advocacy.
Throughout my academic journey, I have actively participated in various leadership roles and initiatives within the field of psychology. Indeed, many of them have been in the administration and finance department in student associations (e.g., of the Faculty student council, or with the National Youth Advisory Council of the Mood Disorders Society of Canada). I am highly motivated to collaborate with my fellow Executive team members to develop and implement strategic initiatives that address the evolving needs of psychology students. Whether it’s enhancing communication channels, organizing professional development opportunities, or advocating for student rights, I am dedicated to advancing the mission of the CPA Student Section.
In conclusion, I am excited about the possibility of contributing to the success of the CPA Student Section as the Administration and Finance Executive. I am confident that my passion, skills, and commitment make me a strong candidate for this position. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to serve our student psychology community and make a positive impact.
Biography
My main academic activities range from student councils to research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and peer help services. In terms of student engagement, I am a part of the Board of Directors of the Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) and Co-chair of their National Youth Advisory Council, where I participate in advocacy on Parliament Hill, team management, project creation, and proper preparation of meeting minutes. At the Université de Moncton, I have held roles such as: External Vice-president of the Undergraduate Psychology Society, Secretary & Treasurer of the student council of the Health Science Faculty, and member of the Strategic planning committee of the institution. I am also the undergraduate CPA representative at Université de Moncton, which I have been for the past year.
In academics, I am both a tutor and assistant in 3 undergraduate courses as well as a research assistant in the Social Cognition Laboratory at my university. In effect, I’ve been very involved in research since my first year of undergrad, where I have gone off to present in national and international conferences and published in journals in my field. I have also been a crisis interventionist both at my university’s peer-help centre and at Kids Help Phone, where I still volunteer on an active basis. I am also a student mentor for first-year students at my institution.
Considering my implications and interests, I aspire to complete further graduate studies to become a clinical psychologist. This aligns with my ongoing passion in advocacy to helping individuals with mental health challenges, and to foster resilience and growth in diverse populations. I hope to one day work in my home province, where I could be able to provide French services to my community who is very much in need.
