The CPA was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Timothy V. Hogan on June 27, 2026 (https://ottawacitizen.remembering.ca/obituary/timothy-hogan-1093883558). Dr. Hogan served as the CPA’s Executive Director from 1979 – 1987.
Dr. Hogan obtained his PhD in Clinical Child Psychology from the University of Ottawa in 1966. With that, he went on to make significant contributions to the lives of children and youth in Ottawa for the duration of his career, serving as the Chief Psychologist at the Royal Ottawa Hospital, Executive Director of the Youth Services Bureau, Psychologist with the Carleton Board of Education and Ottawa Carleton District School Board, and as Supervisor and Head of Psychological Services for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. He maintained a private practice and was also an active member of the Ottawa Academy of Psychology, having served multiple terms as its President and most recently, its Treasurer.
An Honorary Life Fellow of the CPA, Dr. Hogan was a member of many CPA Sections, including but not limited to the CPA’s Section for Educational and School Psychology and Psychologists and Retirement. Dr. Hogan was also profoundly involved in the accreditation of psychology training programs. He was a founding member of the CPA Accreditation Panel and a dedicated Accreditation Site visitor, having conducted over 15 site visits to doctoral and residency programs across Canada during his career, including 8 in the past 3 years alone.
The CPA extends its deep sympathy to Dr. Hogan’s family, friends, and colleagues. A treasured peer and mentor to many, he will be greatly missed.
