2026 Call for Nominations – CPA Board of Directors

Members of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) are invited to make nominations for the following positions:

Note: All Board terms are for three years (beginning in June 2026). There are five Board meetings per year – two in person (at the location of the CPA’s Annual National Convention and in Ottawa in the fall) and three virtual (December, February, April).  Additional virtual meetings may be called as required. Directors in the 1st or 2nd year of their term are eligible to put their name forward for the role of President and Chair of the Board.

As specified in By-Law 5.04, Directors shall be elected by the members by ordinary resolution at an annual meeting of members at which an election of Directors is required.

Instructions for Nominations

As per By-Law 5.05, any CPA Member can submit a nomination for election to the Board of Directors for the open positions, not less than 30 nor more than 65 days prior to the date of the Annual General Meeting of Members (AGM). A call for an electronic advance vote will be issued before the AGM. Advance voting will occur by electronic vote.

Candidates, whose CPA membership is in good standing, must submit their nomination package to the CPA Head Office via electronic form by May 6th, 2026 https://cpa.ca/machform/view.php?id=61519. The candidate’s nomination package includes the following:

  • a curriculum vitae
  • educational background
  • research and/or professional activities
  • candidate conflict of interest declaration
    • Click here to view the CPA’s Volunteer Code of Conduct which provides examples of personal or outside professional interests or activities that may lead to an indirect or direct conflict of interest, and which should be disclosed as part of one’s nomination package.
    • Note that members cannot concurrently hold a Director position on the CPA’s Board and the following:
      • Leadership position (e.g., Director, staff) with a provincial/territorial psychological association, provincial/territorial psychology regulatory body, or another health profession’s regulatory body
      • Chair or Executive position on a CPA Section
    • The Nominating Committee shall assess the eligibility of the nominations of any individuals whom the Committee and CPA Staff, acting reasonably, determine would have a significant/untenable conflict of interest with the CPA (e.g., legal, financial, personal) and undermine their ability to fulfill the duties of a Director if they were elected or appointed to said position; individuals deemed to be in this position will be contacted by the CPA.
  • a letter from the nominator and two letters of support that state the position for which the candidate is being nominated, express support for the candidate, and contains a statement to the effect that the nominator has ascertained the candidate’s willingness to stand for nomination. The nomination letter and letters of support must come from CPA Members whose CPA membership is in good standing.
  • a statement from the candidate, not to exceed 500 words, that indicates their highest degree, current position(s), credentials, licenses held and details the qualities, skills, and experience the candidate brings to their nomination. Candidates may also choose to include information on any major awards they’ve received.
  • a picture to be used on the electronic ballot and on the CPA website

Of the above, only the candidate’s nomination statement and academic credentials are shared with the membership.

Note: CPA affiliates and associates are not eligible to run for a seat on the CPA Board of Directors.
